▐▒▌ Born Max Elliot on June 10th, 1962 in Lewisham, London ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ England. The eight of nine children of parents Alfred and ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ Hyacinth Elliot who had migrated from Jamaica in the 1950's. ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ His mother was a lead singer for the Pentecostal church ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ choir. He changed his original surname to Priest after ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ discovering the Rastafarian religion. Maxi Priest was to ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ become the UK's most succesful home-grown reggae artist. His ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ start came while working as a carpenter building speaker ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ boxes for local reggae bands, singing over the mic at their ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ live dancehall sessions. His big break came when he toured ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ with Philip Levy, Tippa Irie and Smiley Culture. In 1984 he ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ and Paul "Barry Boom" Robinson produced "Mi God Mi King"; ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ the first UK reggae tune to reach number one in Jamaica. His ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ debut album titled "You're Safe" featured his band Caution, ▐▒▌
▐▒▌ is now lying in front of you.... ▐▒▌
