nauseum. But does anyone ever stop to think about what is ██
really behind the text? Behind the doctored pictures? The ██
internet shit-talking? The replacing of numbers for letters? ██
The bnc's? The ignorance? The largely falsified braggadocio? ██
Even more shit talking? It's people, folks. Real people. ██
It's easy to get caught up in the impersonal aspect of ██
internet relay chat, but whether the recipients of your ██
messages are white, black, popular in real life, ugly, ██
pretty, tall, short, fat, 16/f/ca/bi-curious/w pic, or even ██
famous, they are living souls, and that's the bottom line. ██
Paths cross here everyday. And often they cross more than ██
once. But rarely do they ever cross to the point where you ██
could call the other living soul behind the text being read ██
a 'friend.' And even then there are too many liars and ██
assholes on the net to ever really trust most people. But ██
once in a while a soul squeezes through the cracks: affable, ██
respectful, sincere, open like a book. Personalities that ██
make you think, "Where are the people like this in my REAL ██
life?" Well, this IS real life. Paths cross, begin, ██
intertwine, and end here everyday. That's right, they end. ██
In a world where dorks cheer at a muffled walkie talkie ██
voice of 'terrorists win' and zitty teenagers with inflated ██
egos chat up with people they think are chicks for hours at ██
a time just to possibly webcam up some nipple, in a world ██
where nerds are arrested and bootlegging runs rampant moreso ██
than in Hong Kong, in a world where everything isn't what it ██
should be and everything that should be isn't, there is ██
still the lingering constant of death. Just like the 'real ██
world.' And you never know when your or anyone else's card ██
is going to be pulled, whether it be one of those assholes ██
who '0wn3d j00' last weekend or one of the nice ones that ██
slipped through the cracks. And 9 times out of 10, when it ██
happens, it will be the last thing on your mind, ready to ██
knock you off your feet, paralyzed with shock and reminding ██
you that this isn't just a game, this isn't just virtual, or ██
simulated. It's quite real. ██

I can't really say I knew him, but I 'knew' him. And he was ██
definitely one of these anomalies that filter out of the ██
pack of usual IRC assmunches. He loved to graff, had a ██
sister who wore an Avril Lavigine style tie once, and ██
dreamed of one day visiting the states. And throughout the ██
numerous trivial conversations we shared, I never thought in ██
a million years that I would be recalling them in this way. ██
My reaction is a mixture of sorrow and deep personal ██
reflection, as well as reflecting on the 'relationships' I ██
have forged with other likeminded IRC regulars. Even if you ██
did not ever speak to him, at the very least it is always ██
devastating to see a young, promising life cut tragically ██
short. ██
