Vote for Loquat on the Deli SF's Artist of the Month Poll:
www.thedelimagazine.com/sf/vote.php Loquat live review @ Great American Music
Hall with Tilly and the Wall, 8/08/2008; www.thetripwire.com
San Francisco band Loquat took stage before Tilly, and it was one of those
things where you totally forget you love a band until you see them again and
are reminded why they are so close to your heart. I'm an asshole for
forgetting Kylee Swenson has one of the prettiest and sultriest voices live;
she's capable of not only purring into your ear for build-up but also for
belting out to really drive home her range. The band is currently testing out
the waters for new full-length Secrets of the Sea that will drop in October;
if tracks like "Harder Hit" are any indication of the fuzzed out layered
guitar goodness I witnessed live, I am thoroughly excited to spin that record
in my beat-up boom box.
ôLots of bands mix electronic and acoustic instruments, but few pull it off
with the graceùor even the shimmering melodiesùexhibited by this San
Francisco group fronted by Kylee Swenson.ö ùSan Francisco Chronicle
ôThe debut full-length from this San Francisco five-piece is a masterful work
of female-fronted electronic pop that seems utterly unconcerned with
trend.... ItÆs Yours to Keep is the kind of album that makes the world around
you slow down.ö ùUnder the Radar
ôIn a genre marred by overproduction and, sometimes, a lack of imagination,
Loquat is not only wonderfully organic but refreshingly inventive: ItÆs Yours
to Keep could just become the soundtrack to your summer.ö ùNylon
ôSwensonÆs voice soars like Sarah McLachlan, but her lyrics cut like Cat
Power.ö ùURB
