██▓▀ ███
██▓ Gritty grooves and funky harmonica -- a wonderful ▓██
██▓ compilation of tracks that finally give the harp ▓██
██▓ player his due! The bulk of the work is from the ▓██
██▓ late 60s -- recorded at points from Chicago down to ▓██
██▓ Texas -- all with rhythms that snap and crackle ▓██
██▓ nicely, almost always with a strong undercurrent of ▓██
██▓ funk amidst the blues. The harmonica work is laid ▓██
██▓ out nicely over the top -- sometimes on its own, ▓██
██▓ sometimes alongside vocals -- with a chunky, ▓██
██▓ chugging groove that vamps along nicely with the ▓██
██▓ backings! If you've been looking for a funky ▓██
██▓ collection to help you dig deeper into blues, this ▓██
██▓ one may well be it -- because it nicely avoids the ▓██
██▓ cliches of the college club scene, and goes for the ▓██
██▓ grittier tunes that might appeal to beatheads. ▓██
