│Additional Information to The Mystic Revealers - this one's for jah │
├──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│About the Artist │
│For the members of the Mystic Revealers, reggae is about │
│the truth, and the words and music of their songs reflect │
│this tradition with rhythms, melodies, and lyrics reflecting │
│vital social conscious. The Revealers attempt to keep the │
│reggae of their native Jamaica from being completely overtaken │
│by the prolific dance hall and ska music popular today. │
│They want to keep reggae's traditional roots alive through │
│the power of a rich, wailing sound. │
│ │
│The Revealers' four core members have been with the group │
│since its inception and have known each other since they │
│were boys at St. Andrew Parish in rural Bull Bay. These │
│include Billy "Mystic" Wilmot (guitar, lead vocals, │
│songwriter), who writes most of the group's original songs, │
│Steve Davis (lead guitar, vocals), Leroy "Lion" Edwards │
│(bass), and Nicky "Cymbal" Henry (drums), formerly with Earth │
│Disciplines, and Jalan and who is also a record producer. │
│ │
│Other current members are Christopher "Skyjuice" Burth │
│(percussion), previously with Black Uhuru, Sly and Robbie, │
│and the Wailers Band, Clarence Charles (guitar) who has │
│backed artists like Aretha Franklin and Barry White, and Paul │
│"Scooby" Smith (keyboards), formerly with Buju Banton. │
│ │
│The Revealer's influence first began to spread beyond │
│Jamaica's shores in 1988, as a result of their appearance │
│on Reggae Sunsplash. Japanese television producer, Shinjiro │
│Kanazawa, featured them on CHUKYO TV as the band of the future, │
│bringing them to worldwide attention and international │
│recognition for the Reggae Roots tradition their music embodies. │
│ │
│The group has gone on to perform in North and South America, │
│Britain, Europe, and Japan and has been releasing albums │
│regularly since 1993. Jah Works (1993) is considered some │
│of the best reggae to be produced since Bob Marley's Uprising. │
│Space and Time (1995) won a JAMI Award for Album of The Year. │
│The Revealers were the highlight of Bob Marley's Fiftieth Birthday │
│Bash in Jamaica. │
│ │
│Mystic Revealers may be from a tiny nation in the Caribbean, │
│but their music and lyrics have universal appeal and connection. │
│In the song, "Children's Crying," they remind listeners that major │
│cities in countries all over the world have urban ghettos. │
