The incredible debut album. Funkulo is a tight collection of disco,
funk, afro and sexual inspirations.
Hip label Tummy Touch made some bucks with Groove Armada, but
appear content to remain leftfield with their virtually patented
brand of quirky, disco-influenced house. Their artists have no
problem with using the most bizarre or cheesy samples, and Italian
ex-pats Jurij Prette and Paolo Guglielmino are no exception. Their
thievery starts in the Eighties disco explosions of opening tracks
Welcome to The Marble Room and the especially electrifying Hugs &
Kisses. Polyrythmics nicks the best bits of Afrobeat while Take My
Hand is surprisingly deep and soulful. However, Tutto Matto fall
flat when they take one more sophisticated fare. Holes appear in
the jazz noodling of Can't Stop and the deep house loops of Don't
Stop. But the greater part of this album is shamelessly
unpretentious, shallow as a Saharan oasis in summer, but a lot more
fun.
Finally, after four fantastic, but funking camp classics, the Tutto
Matto twosome deliver their incredible debut album. Funkulo is a
tight collection of disco, funk, afro and sexual inspirations
containing the previous single (Hugs & Kisses) plus ten brand new
tunes.
Over the last two years Tutto Matto have built up a cult following.
Their unique take on dance music has appealed to many club DJs
bored with the current house sound.
