one of the reds is the dj, the no-holds-barred amateur of harmonic
marches: jean croc, phd in lunar singles. he knows all about the
joys of hits as well as the offbeat charm of abandoned grooves.
the b-side, this juicy and appealing "je-ne-sais-quoi" of whatÆs
on the other side. sometimes out of time, but more oftenà out of
this world!ö for a long time, heÆs been reviving the spirit of
this curious music, playing on radio nova (paris) and in places
where people party. he also enjoys featuring in person at selected
happenings: he whistles with air, does a cracking good imitation
of ondioline on records by electronics pioneer jean-jacques
perrey.
the other red is the composer, the actual musician when push comes
to shove, the no-holds-barred interpreter of harmonic marches:
nicolas errera. his discography could well take up a good yardÆs
worth of a shelf in your record collection: from grand popo
football club to cravate club, when heÆs not getting michel
serrault to sing for the soundtrack of ôle papillonöà every night
he listens to glenn gould plays goldberg variations on bach, to
get to sleep. that having been said, in musical matters, he likes
a bit of everything from classical music and film soundtracks, to
electronic. ôwith the exception of jazz-rock, and its interminable
meanderingsö he specifies. weÆd expect nothing less of him.
the dj and the composer shook hands one new yearÆs eve, which
sparked the whole thing. together, they decided to create
cheerful, heady, fantastic, fanciful, and stylised music. jean
crocÆs collection fuelled nicolasÆ creative impulse. ôthe samples
set the mood for the song, giving it musical direction. from this
starting point, i start to twist them around, and compose.ö other
voices, nonchalant and sensual, (peggy heronneau, katy braitman,
paula tesser, marc thomas) release the feminine sensitivity lying
dormant in nicolas errΦraÆs and jean crocÆs respective psyches.
ôthe driving force behind the album, which took shape very
gradually, was to give voice to the emotion of love, women talking
to men. which leads to further-reaching prospects than the other
way round.ö
