      █░█▒      Violist extraordinaire Anni Rossi makes her debut    ▒█░█
      █░█▒      for 4AD, compiling tracks from early limited         ▒█░█
      █░█▒      releases and MySpace for a showcase of her quirky    ▒█░█
      █░█▒      songwriting talents. In a live environment Rossi     ▒█░█
      █░█▒      performs by plucking and scraping away at her        ▒█░█
      █░█▒      instrument, simultaneously singing and stomping her  ▒█░█
      █░█▒      feet to beat out a rhythm. That approach forms the   ▒█░█
      █░█▒      basis of these songs, which although slightly        ▒█░█
      █░█▒      augmented by one or two other instruments (a little  ▒█░█
      █░█▒      clarinet and organ here and there - maybe even some  ▒█░█
      █░█▒      actual bass and drums) remain essentially very       ▒█░█
      █░█▒      streamlined and idiosyncratic with a particular      ▒█░█
      █░█▒      focus on the exuberant vocal delivery, which at      ▒█░█
      █░█▒      times makes Joanna Newsom sound restrained. A fine   ▒█░█
      █░█▒      set of songs, all beautifully and understatedly      ▒█░█
      █░█▒      arranged, but perhaps most importantly, within the   ▒█░█
      █░█▒      space of just six songs Rossi manages to establish   ▒█░█
      █░█▒      herself as a distinctive new voice in American       ▒█░█
