This compilation from the new California label Input/Output (no
relation to the Scandinavian label of the same name!) is really all
over the genre map, the only think keeping it together is that every
act on it is doing some sort of edgy electronic stuff. None of it is
well produced, but there are some good ideas presented and it will be
interesting to see what direction this label winds up taking.
If you check one track be sure to hear Algorythm's Immanence, a good
bit of finely crafted melodic IDM. If you like it follow up with
Sensor Array's more laid back IDM track.
Another treat, for lovers of chaotic hardcore interrupted by
political samples, is Collision Core by Kalishnakov My Love.
Reconstructing Richard lays down a sparsely orchestrated tune for the
chip lovers, proving that songs don't need to be complicated or over
produced to sit well in your ear or make you smile.
DJC has two minutes of lo-fi pop sensibility for everyone with thick,
black plastic glasses to sway back and forth to.
The Square Root of Evil sloppily captures the darker essence of
childhood with a toy-keyboard melody and random bursts of percussive,
drillly energy over an offbeat kick drum.
The repetitive synth, wandering child-voice, and mess of other sounds
presented by Openbless sound like Boards of Canada on a BAD acid
trip. Check it if you like noise.
The rest of the tracks are all laid back or glitchy electronica with
a few rolls here and goofy samples there.
