Release Notes:
Rykodisc's family of labels, including the Hannibal and
Gramavision imprints, has had much success featuring both
established artists and newcomers. Having the high-profile of some
of the majors and the hipster cachet of more renegade independent
labels, Rykodisc has found a way to succeed somewhere in the
middle with a wide array of artists to boot. That they made their
mark during the late '80s and early '90s, as musical eclecticism
blossomed, is no surprise. This 15th anniversary survey brings
together the labels heady mix, which ranges from folk and punk to
international and gospel. The sampler mostly features tracks cut
during the '90s and includes fine sides by Kristin Hersh, Bob
Mould, Frank Zappa, Morphine, Odetta, Richard Thompson, and Bruce
Cockburn. There's also the seasoned folk duo Kate & Anna
McGarrigle and alt-country all-stars Golden Smog, as well as world
music figures like Ali Farka Toure (with Ry Cooder), Jesus
Alemany, and Mickey Hart. A solid and eclectic collection.
