Release Notes:
Sub 20 year olds, pulling funny faces, wearing checked shirts,
and playing tighter than their drainpipe jeans are in. Andy
(drums), Robin (bass), Pete (guitar) and Sped (guitar), mates
since primary school, welcomed Duncan as the final member
(vocals), after he arrived sogging wet, from a traipse across
Marple Bridge, in the usual pissing rain. It was an audition
that no-one could remember organising.
Dutch Uncles (with all previous releases under the name of The
'Headlines') first release was a vinyl-only single. 'A Long
Process' was released in August 2006, via Manchester scene
setting label Science Fiction Theatre. The single's earnest,
blissfully spiky melodica picked up support from MTV 2, as
well as plays on BBC 6 Music and since being invited on to
plan at In The City in 2006 the band have been writing and
gigging across the country and Europe to rave reviews.
Their second single, 'Takeover' further demonstrated their
wonderful mixture of light melodies and dark lyrics, all
bashed about with a striking contemporary energy. Takeover??
was one John Kennedy (XFM Xposure) singles of the year.
Their 3rd single "Steadycam" produced by Gareth Parton (The
Go! Team, Foals, Pete And The Pirates) is a salty seaman
stained tale from both side of the camera with the lyric - I'm
fixed over one eye?? questioning the very essence of control
in a world of porn stars and teenage boys fantasies.
Steadycam's bouncy melody, with their now trademark duelling
guitars, offers up a goosebump arousing prickliness, before
going all out bareback, with a slap around the nether regions
of a chorus.
And this releases is a true and teasing introduction to what
promises to be a head-spinning debut album.
