Jihae was born in South Korea, but has lived in Nigeria, Sweden, and the UK
before settling in New York City.
As a musician and artist she has worked with the likes of Duncan Sheik and The
English Beat's David Steel (who co-wrote the song "Best Thing").
Her new album is Elvis Is Still Alive. The record is a collection of seven
introspective tracks, bookended by the singalong title track and the feedback
drenched "Birthday Blues". The songs in between those uptempo numbers tend
toward the melancholy.
"Best Thing" is a dreamy lullaby. The on the tracks "Hide" and "Stay" Jihae
sounds like a space-aged Lucinda Williams fronting Mazzy Star.
The most intriguing track may very well be "Perfect Lie", a song that wouldn't
sound out of place on a mid-70's Lou Reed record.
Jihae is a very interesting and complex artist, and I believe that is reflected
in the music on Elvis Is Still Alive...by the way, no he isn't.
