Belfast in Northern Ireland has been a hotbed for
DJ & production talent since the scene exploded
back in the early ninety's with the likes of David
Holmes & Phil Kieran both making a stamp on the
international arena with their trademark Norn'
Irish sounds. It would seem that the well has not
yet dried up with a current new breed of talent
breaking through with Gary Dickenson at the
forefront of a bustling scene that has recently
regenerated itself and come back bigger, bolder
and better. A relative newcomer to the DJ world
with 5 years experience behind him, Gary has had a
meteoric rise in club circles with his name on the
lips of most right thinking club promoters and
record label bosses.
Gary's easy going attitude and friendly persona
makes him one of the most genuine characters
you'll find in today's diva filled mishmash of
overpaid & over hyped artists. Gary's early
influences came from visiting the dance floors of
his local clubs Lush, where great regard developed
for the progressive sounds of the likes of Sasha,
John Digweed, Danny Howells & Nick Warren. Ibiza
also proved to be a big inspiration with regular
visits to clubs such as Space & DC10 inspiring
Gary to push a sound as he puts it " more on the
tougher, underground, techier side of house".
"I like to think when I play I don't stick to one
particular style, I have an ear for listening to
tracks in their own merit. I prefer the more
underground/tougher side of house music, in my
sets you can hear everything from
deep/tech/minimal house to techno ".
With this sound Gary has achieved enormous success
by playing at some of IrelandÆs biggest clubs
including the famous Lush! at Kellys and Stiff
Kitten, both clubs attract some of the worldÆs
biggest djÆs including Sasha, John Digweed, Carl
Cox, Richie Hawtin, Danny Howells, Derrick Carter,
Andy Weatherall etc, he even had to fill SashaÆs
boots in Lush on an occasion when he was sick and
rocked a 2000 capacity crowd in Lush!!. From this
he has played alongside and warmed up for the
likes of Dave Seaman, Futureshock, Mauro Picotto,
Markus Schultz, Greg Vickers, Barry Gilbey,
X-Press 2, Echomen, Phil Kieran - to name but a
few.
"Gary has played at Lush! on 5 or 6 occasions over
the last couple of years and on each appearance he
has impressed me with not only his track selection
but also his programming and understanding of how
to build up a set. He is definitely one of the
best of the new breed of young Irish dj's coming
through the ranksö Col Hamilton (Lush!,
DJ/Promoter)
His talents have also taken him abroad with 2
tours of Russia and a visit to Lithuania where he
played to capacity in clubs in Taganrog,
Volgodonsk and Rostov-On-Don and in Vilnius. The
Russian promoters werenÆt long on picking up on
his talents as he is now signed to Russian DJ
Agency Replay Records who are exclusively handling
his gigs in the country! He has also played live
mixes on the famous N Ireland dance radio show
æAcross The LineÆ on many occasions. You will also
hear him on the airwaves on the ever famous and
very popular Proton Radio and KSK Radio in Buenos
Aires in Argentina. Just recently he has also
secured a residency in Belfast at one of the
cityÆs top clubs, VicoÆs, this will surely be a
home base for Gary to pioneer his sound even
further!! This was the club responsible for
bringing names for the first time to Belfast like
Marco Carola, DJ Misjah, Dave Clarke, Yoda etc and
also has been made one of the residents of Belfast
most booming all nighter at the minute, Yello.
This club has been growing from strength to
strength with djÆs like Milton Jackson, Dave
Spoon, Tom Middleton, Paolo Mojo, Deepgroove etc
week in week out. Gary was every happy to join the

One reason for GaryÆs up and coming success has
been his ongoing commitment to his production
work, Matthew Bushwacka was the 1st to pick up on
it and signed 2 of his tracks to his label at the
time æOblong RecordsÆ.
ôFlashback/effective is one of the strongest
releases I have had the pleasure of signing to
Oblong and both sides of this 12" monster totally
destroy the dance floor with great sounds and
fantastic arrangements. Very DJ friendly and so
well produced. I cannot wait to hear more from

Since then he has had further releases on many
labels including Play Recordings, Fiberline Audio,
Proton Music, Pure Substance Records, KumQuat
Tunes, Sick Watona, Omnis Recordings, Fling
Records to name but a few. His new project is
æMinimindsÆ, where he is working in the studio and
djÆing together with another up and coming dj
called Stephen Garrett, basing their sound on a
more driving minimal techno sound, there first
track æMinimindsÆ has been receiving massive
support from Mr C, Scarlett Etienne, Steve Bug,
Jamie Jones etc. It has just been signed to Luke
Dzierecks label Fling Records, and with many gigs
for them in the New Year abroad this is a signs of
good things to come!!!
Gary's career is continuing to soar to great
heights and will continue to do so without a
doubt. 2007/08 looks like it's going to be a
massive year for the Belfast man with gigs already
confirmed in Russia, England, Italy, Lithuania and
a few other overseas gigs in the pipeline, who
could argue with this going on his achievements so
far..
