Nine of the finest players on Europe's nu/future-jazz scene get to
grips with Universal Funk's debut and remould the album into
something quite different. With more than a slight nod to both
breaks and deep house, the varied remxies all gel incredibly and
surprisingly well
together.
Worldless People turn "Don't Take It All" into a lilting broken
affair, courtesy of inventive disjointed percussion,kaleidoscope
space keys, gorgeous relaxing trumpet and aloof sophisticated
synth. Andreas Saag pulls it out the bag again, with another
heart-stopping Swell Session re-take. Defined energetic percussion,
a nifty elasticated guitar, clean nail on the head hitting keys and
distraught vocals from Elsa combine faultlessly. Mikael Delta takes
sparse live drums over a slow grooving beat, glamorous keys, a
tearful sax and pining vocals to produce an emotive remix of
"Smokin' Love". Cai Bojsen-Moller's remix of "Kuta" pleads for
brotherly love and understanding in such politically unstable
times, with heavy swaying percussion, a gleaming synth, stop dead
space keys and an intense staring bass.
