Push Button Objects aka Miami's Edgar Farinas has been at the head
of the Chocolate Industries charge to close the gap between hip hop
and electronic. The combination is easily fucked up, but PBO has
consistently made some interesting movements. Take for instance, 3
instrumentals debuted here, "Sleep, Breakers Delight, and
"Interlude:" Unconventional productions that would sound equally
at home on a Skam record as an indy 12". Notice that while he's not
afraid to mess with the boom bip schema, he also never gets too
abstract (grounded). Pay close attention to "Sleep." It's not a far
stretch to call this track the beautiful ugly. Also checkout Aesop
Rock on "Shut Down," this is the hot shit. I normally don't feel
Aesop's delivery, but the beat is overwhelming with redemptive
powers. In a similar vein, this album revisits the 2001 "hit" "360"
featuring Del, Mr. Lif, and Craze. This is much more than I
expected, and a strong showing. 11 tracks in all.
