Release Notes:

Time builds legends out of artists who were misunderstood or
maligned in their time, while often being their own worst
enemy. The doomed star of Jeffrey Lee Pierce, tragic genius
behind the Gun Club, has risen noticeably this year with the
release of live albums, DVDs, the marvellous Ghost On The
Highway tribute and now this four-disc box set consisting of
studio material, radio broadcasts and songs plucked from live
sets performed around the world dating 1980-93. It could
border on overkill, but true believers can't have too much
Jeffrey, especially when his muse is boasting a hellfire
hard-on like the Jimi Hendrix homages from an incendiary 1992
Tivoli show, or the way he grapples Bo Diddley's Gunslinger in
delirious homage.

Disc One mixes timeless Gun Club tracks with songs off
Pierce's solo debut Wildweed, but the interesting stuff rears
on the ensuing discs. Early assaults like Preachin' Blues are
soul-searingly psychotic but, by Disc Four's gutbucket blues
and melancholy acoustic outings from the Lucky Jim period,
Pierce found a new kind of intimate personal blues towards the
end of the remarkable journey represented here. Had he lived,
Jeffrey could have risen to similar heights as his friend Nick
Cave; here's further proof that he still left some fabulous
trackmarks.
