Detroit's finest saves the best for last with his first release this
year just popping in right at the closing strokes. It's quite a
shocker too, and should possibly come with an Explicit Content
warning as KDJ offers us some of his most sexualised deep avant-house
grooves to date on title track 'Freeki MF', a purring ode to the
freakier side of the fairer sex with slow rubbed disco bass and
strings hovering like midnight smoke for a supremely sensual
atmosphere. 'Heaven' again features more smutty pillow talk from the
Moody one over a cinematic score for an as yet unproduced skin flick
in his mind, while 'Hello Tomorrow' is a pure party cut with purple
hued disco vibes, and title track 'Det.riot' takes a more serious
tone with vocal snippets referring to the '67 Detroit riots with a
brilliantly odd and acidic booty rhythm backing. For Moodymann fans,
this is the one you've been waiting for (it even comes with an A3
poster!!), for everyone else this is seriously recommended as the
perfect example of just how freaky Detroit house can get.
