Broken Sons began in the summer of 2006, when 20-year old drummer Jay
Manara decided to leave his band Vault to pursue his interest in
becoming a front man and singing his own songs.

During their four years, Vault had some minor international success with
their song "The Walls" which was featured in the Wes Craven major motion
picture The Hills Have Eyes (Fox Searchlight Pictures 2006) and
soundtrack. Although success for the members of Vault was just starting,
the ongoing differences regarding the musical direction led Manara to
step out from behind the drum kit, and take his writing to a new
project.

He soon met bassist Devon Gergovich on the local music scene, and the
duo quickly began working on material that would later become the
foundation of Broken Sons. After months of writing and failed auditions
to complete the band, the duo decided to take matters into their own
hands, and began working on their first EP together. In order to attract
a talented guitar player and drummer, Manara and Gergovich knew they
needed to have material that would showcase the level of talent and
musical direction that they were aiming for.

They began to work together with engineer/producer Ian Bodzasi (Sum 41,
Nelly Furtado, D12, Bachman Cummings, Treble Charger), who Manara had an
existing relationship with from previous sessions at Metalworks. After
almost a year of writing, recording, and financial hardship, Manara,
Gergovich and Bodzasi finished a solid six song EP.

As the recording process began to wind down, Manara and Gergovich needed
to focus on completing the band. They flooded the local classifieds with
guitar and drummer æwantedÆ ads, and continued auditioning an endless
stream of musicians. The ads caught the attention of guitar/ drummer duo
Dan Hebert and Brad Fisher, who were looking for a bassist and singer to
complete their own project. The talent of the two outshined the
competition, and the four quickly began rehearsing and focusing on
turning the songs into a live show. After three months of practicing in
the studio, they played their first show together.

Many debates began over what the band name should be, then they finally
decided on Broken Sons just minutes before going on stage. After many
months of playing shows in Toronto, they have begun to generate buzz for
themselves among the local clubs.
