█ Five years ago, The Nighthawks, one of the longest running, most █
█ consistent American Roots bands of their generation, made two major █
█ personnel changes. Paul Bell took over the guitar slot and Johnny Castle █
█ snatched the bass position after 30 plus years without a change. █

█ These two were no strangers to The Nighthawks, having played in various █
█ side combinations around the band over the past several decades. Pete █
█ Ragusa, the Hawks' drummer since 1974, did several side projects with █
█ Paul and Johnny, including a band with Catfish Hodge. Johnny played on █
█ Mark Wenner's first solo album as a member of Switchblade in 1984. The █
█ infusuion of fresh energy, ideas, and enthusiasm has made this █
█ combination the very best Nighthawks yet. █
█ █
█ Learning virtually hundreds of songs, both old and new, and touring with █
█ a vengance, the new band had little time to focus on the studio but █
█ released a teaser live CD/DVD set three years ago. Recorded at The Barns █
█ at Wolf Trap in Vienna Va, Blue Moon in Your Eye has been a consistently █
█ strong seller. Over the last year the Nighthawks began focusing on █
█ material to take into the studio. The combined experience of the four █
█ members of the band, joined by long time sympatico engineer Chris █
█ Murphy, allowed the development of what is the very best studio efforts █
█ from this long-lived and prolific band. █

█ In 1974, in the liner notes of their first release, the band set forth a █
█ mission statement to recreate Rock and Roll by going back to the sources █
█ and recombining them into truly American music. One need only to look at █
█ the sources for the material that makes up this American Landscape to █
█ realize The Nighthawks are still at it, choosing tunes from Lazy Lester █
█ and Ike Turner, Sam and Dave, Dan Penn and Marvin Gaye, as well as █
█ contemporaries like the Imperial Crowns and Tom Waits' theme from HBO's █
█ The Wire, along with two Bob Dylan classics, and two Johnny Castle █
█ originals. █

█ The album is dedicated to David Simon, who not only included Nighthawks █
█ material in The Wire, but had the band perform live in scenes in █
█ Homicide: Life on the Street on NBC and The Wire on HBO. █
█ █
█ We have received the first batch of American Landscape - they are being █
█ offered as a "pre-release" sale on The Nighthawks website - and the █
█ official release date is set for February 2, 2009. █

█ If we can sell the first thousand quickly we can order more and afford █
█ radio promotion and distribution. The whole project has been done █
█ entirely at our own expense, giving us total artistic control, and we █
█ think this is the very best Nighthawks recording ever. █
