Having a unique talent to spit poetry through the microphone to express
their experiences, thoughts and take on life, the Filipino-Canadian
group SONZ OF SUNZ pride themselves as being part of the growing Hip-Hop
culture. The diverse duo, composed of M.I.C. ILL. and Chief Chucka's,
aims to bring forth a new surge of music with positive messages while
keeping Hip Hop as it was in the golden era...fun. Sonz of Sunz proves
to be the epitome of the continuing growth of Hip Hop, demonstrating
that the culture has stretched to all corners of the world. They provide
a balance of positive urban Canadian upbringing as well as a respectful
reflection of their cultural backgrounds. Constantly in the studio
developing and producing music, the Mic Reach Records artists have also
made their presence known by performing at various local Van City venues
Formerly a group of three, Sonz of Sunz formed when Filipino rappers,
M.I.C. ILL and Chief Chucka, teamed up with Japanese MC, Mr. Rice, after
meeting and working together at a Vancouver restaurant during the late
90's. After years of working together as a trio and shortly after
releasing their debut album, The New Breed in June 2004, Mr. Rice made
the hard decision to leave the group and pursue other interest. After
careful introspection at the loss of their partner in rhyme, M.I.C. ILL
and Chief Chucka made the decision to carry on with the group name and
continue spreading their message through music.
Sonz of Sunz looks forward to exposing their lyrical refinement and
maturity through their second album My Mic Reaches Vol.1, which will be
released through Chief Chucka's independently owned and operated label
Mic Reach Records. The second album is set for a 2007 late summer
release.
