This is a kaleidoscopic roller-coaster of delicious and amazing
sounds reflecting some favourite pieces played on the Radio 3 "Mixing
it" show. Music that you couldn't hear anywhere else was the idea
behind "Mixing it" when it was originated by producer Tony Cheevers
in 1990. The combination of presenters Robert Sandall and Mark
Russell's musical backgrounds exposes a breadth of listening through
the rarer regions of jazz, world, Avant-Garde, rock, free
improvisation and techno. From the Future Sound of London's ambient
dreaming, via the incantations of the Inuits and the Tahitians, to
the post-pop groove of Holger Czukay, the fragile emotion of Bjork,
the manic player piano of Nancarrow, Sun Ra's cosmic jazz...
A richer, stranger, more exciting CD would be hard to find. A more
eclectic mix of rare and beatuiful sounds on the radio would be
impossible to hear.
