Lounge electrique Vol.2 : The Baby Mammoth Selection
liner notes:
After 10.000 years of sleep, trapped under Siberia's Arctic Tundra,
the spring thaw of '94 saw the birth of Baby mammoth. Armed with a
tea-stained Atari and a dirty sampler, work began in earnest.
10.000 years of ideas began to flow in glacial harmony.
Baby Mammoth, the project of Mark Blissenden and Andrew Burdall,
began in 1994 after a chance meeting turned into friendship and
ideas. at the time "Bliss" was Djing with Nottinghams DIY, and
Burdy was spinning his first tunes. Both played House. But then the
music that caught their ears (for example stuff from Pork, Ninja
Tunes, and G-Stoned) had an influence on their music styles, and so
their Djing became more diverse, spamming genres. This influenced
the early music they produced and they began to express the wide
range of musical influences they have from Soul, Jazz, Rock, Hip
Hop to Trip Hop, House and Techno. Fuelled also with to experiment
and improve their music artistically and technically, 6 albums have
been "set free" to date on Pork Recordings...with another on the
way...
"We have DJed singulary and collectively since the early days of
Baby Mammoth, and both of us enjoy diverse DJ Sets, which we try to
make interesting for both dancers and listeners. In the "Lounge
Electrique"- Series, we have tried to express this idea, moving
through styles and genres, gradually increasing the pack; as we
were, we'll be 10.000 years from now. Who knows...perhaps on yachts
in the caribbean after a huge lottery win! But certainly there'll
be a continuation in our drive to experiment and create in our
writing, remixing and Djing and hopefully we'll have the chance to
spread the mammoth vibe to more and more people...this is a mammoth
that will never be extinct".
Burdy and Bliss, June 1st 2001, 33.000 feet above Western Russia.
