Undeniably a landmark in Fela's discography, Zombie
examplifies the man's political stamina.
An open and vivid criticism of Nigeria's military junte,
the title track denounces the military, depicting them as
living deads obeying to occult powers without discussing
orders.
Erratic armed violence is translated musically by
syncopated hectic rhythms once again purveyed by Afrobeat
master extraordinaire Tony Allen.
The military responded to Zombie's massive popular success
by rading his famous Kalakuta compound.
During the assault, Fela's mother was thrown out of a
window by militarymen.
She died from her injuries a few days later.
However, such extreme hardships and sorrows never tamed
Fela's political gusto and rebellion but rather fueled his
fire.
