The Southampton (UK) based label Shiva Records announces us
the return (not reunion) of the Sheffield based cult act
Cabaret Voltaire. In January 2009 Shiva Records will release
the first new work by Cabaret Voltaire since 1993, which is
actually a re-working of key tracks from the debut album by
the Shiva Records act Kora. Cabaret Voltaire have also lined
up select shows for 2009, dates are yet to be confirmed.
Cabaret Voltaire formed in 1974 and signed with Rough Trade
Records in 1978. Initially composed of Stephen Mallinder,
Richard H. Kirk and Chris Watson, the group was named after
the Cabaret Voltaire, a nightclub in Zurich, Switzerland that
was a center for the early Dada movement. Their earliest
performances were dada-influenced performance art, but Cabaret
Voltaire later developed into one of the most prolific and
important groups to blend pop with dance music, techno, dub
house and experimental electronic music. The band's last album
was 1994's "The Conversation".
