| Wonderful work from Beady Belle -- a group who |
| never lets us down! Belvedere is every bit as |
| silky and soulful as some of Beady Belle's |
| previous work -- but perhaps a bit more subtle |
| too, and a record that really does a great job of |
| finding its own place, and its own sense of |
| voice. The tunes here are beautifully penned -- |
| more sensitive than we remember from the past, |
| and with a personal quality that's has vocalist |
| Beate Lech emerging as a wonderful songwriter. |
| Her vocals are great too -- still as soul-based |
| in the past, but in ways that aren't just a |
| copycat of contemporary modes -- and which really |
| go deeper in terms of finding her groove. Most |
| tracks are mellowish, with a nice sort of glow -- |
| and although the album features guest work from |
| Jamie Cullum and India Arie, Beate's still the |
| main star in the spotlight throughout the set! |
| Titles include "Apron Strings", "Tranquil |
| Flight", "Self-Fulfilling", "Intermission Music", |
| "Viscous Ocean", "Boiling Milk", and "Two-Faced". |
