Losing the comma from his name hasn't made Loney Dear (aka
Swedish pop maestro Emil Svan⌡ngen) sound any less "loney."
"Airport Surroundings" is the first stream available from
Loney Dear's forthcoming album Dear John, due out in March on
Polyvinyl, and it follows last year's Sub Pop releases of
Loney, Noir and Sologne. The latest track is a reasonably
well-crafted, warmly arranged bit of orchestral synth-pop with
Svanongen's sad, sweet whispers at its center. "I got a hole
in my head and a hole in my heart," he sings amid the
minor-key moodiness and softly jangling percussion. It's not
going to put holes in your head or heart, but it's an easy
charmer at the end of a long day.
