| One of the original oldskool groups, Genaside |
| II, kind of disappeared off the face of the |
| scene around 1992. Who would have guessed |
| that they were spending all their time in the |
| studio coming up with this stunner of a debut |
| album? They take their hardcore roots and |
| expand upon them, as well as branch out into |
| new styles -- a dub track featuring reggae |
| star Eek-A-Mouse, as well as a few hip-hop |
| tunes co-produced by the Wu-Tang Clan. Hell, |
| there's even a cover of the Red Hot Chili |
| Peppers' "Under The Bridge" on here. But the |
| track on here that's the most memorable is |
| the one that caught my ears in the first |
| place, the early hardcore tune "Narra Mine", |
| first done back in 1991. Bukem gets a lot of |
| credit for influencing the direction of the |
| drum and bass scene these days, but not to |
| give credit to Genaside II for this tune is |
| short-sighted, as it basically created the |
| template for every vocal drum and bass tune |
| that followed in the coming years. Listen to |
| it and you'll hear where so many of today's |
| artists are still cribbing from. Very highly |
| recommended stuff that deserves a listen. |
