Sean O'Keeffe is hailed as a founding father of the Breakbeat scene through his
contributions as "2 Bad Mice". With fellow Partisan Recordings comrade, Simon
Colebrooke, and ex-associate Rob Playford, their first release in 1991 "2 Bad
Mice" (catalogue no. Shadow3) helped put Moving Shadow Records on the map. This
was followed by the "5 in one Night" EP (Shadow5), under the name Kaotic
Chemistry. Under alternate aliases came the "Hold It Down" EP (2 Bad Mice,
Shadow14, 1992); the "LSD" EP (Kaotic Chemistry, Shadow20, 1992); and the "Under
World" EP (2 Bad Mice, Shadow26, 1992). On the 1994 collectors' series, "2 on 1",
2 Bad Mice added "Shooby Corner" to 2 on 1:6. When Profile / Smile Records of
New York assembled their album it was called "Kaotic Chemistry" by 2 Bad Mice, &
the trio made several highly amusing trips across the United States of America.
Picture being driven along the freeway in L.A. & seeing a huge billboard flashing
"2 Bad Mice- Live Appearance Tonight"- very Blues Brothers.
Tired of being a mouse, Sean struck out as "Deep Blue", a hint at his artistic
leanings (responsible for the majority of graphic design at Moving Shadow he is
now Art Director at Partisan). And did he strike the bullseye or what as
"The Helicopter Tune" (Shadow41, 1993) went on to become one of the essential
anthems, the raver's Desert Island Disc, an international rallying call for good
times. Reaching #46 in the CIN National Chart, it secured his reputation in the
Dance Hall of Fame and its popularity was as strong as ever with the
"Helicopter '97" (Shadow82) remixes of 1997. Teaming up with old buddy Blame in
1996, their "Transitions" 12" (Moving Shadow) earned much respect and now we await
Deep Blue's first release on Partisan, "Destroyer / Oceans Above Life", and the
exciting prospect of an album before Christmas.
