| Review: |
| Deepfried Toguma are from Denmark, and The Hi-Fi Companion is |
| their second album. Blending luminous pop, twisted trip-hop and |
| liquid ambient, Frithjof Toksvig, Martin Lind and El Dub |
| produce with this record a collection of pop songs without |
| words, on which you can't help but hum along. From the opening |
| track, the beautiful Aquarius, the listener is hit by wave |
| after wave of melodic electronic music that sounds strangely |
| acoustic, of spooky voices lost in fog and drowsy narcotic |
| beats. Record for the Prozac generation, The Hi-Fi Companion |
| has a strangely attractive and catchy personality, and is |
| filled with light and harmony. Only once this sea of |
| tranquillity is disturbed by a passing storm, on Slalom, where |
| the drum machine gets suddenly slightly excited, and the voice |
| sounds like out of an Underworld track. But everything becomes |
| quiet again on Pole-Star. |
| Deepfried Toguma have produced, with The Hi-Fi Companion, a |
| desert island record, admirably perfect, quintessentially |
| beautiful. |
