Written & Produced by Chris Brann for Wamdue Productions.
Vocalists Gaelle Adisson, Terrance Downs, Heather Johnson, Ima
Moore and Justin Chapman, along with guitarist/percussionist Ede
Wright, bassist Aseen and percussionist Genoa Mungin.
Growing up in Atlanta, Chris discovered house and electronic music
by the somewhat long-winded way of getting sent tapes from Europe.
He began assembling a home studio but it wasn't until 1994 that he
began his music career in earnest and formed Wamdue Kids with DJs
Deep C, aka Chris Clarke, and Udoh, aka Chris Udoh.
In 1995 they released a jazz house track called 'Higher' on the
Acacia label, which in turn brought them commissions on Peacefrog,
Stud!o K7, Jus' Trax, Multiply and Strictly Rhythm.
Meanwhile they also began branching out, forming several new
operations, such as Wamdue Productions and Wamdue Project.
In 1996 Chris' prolific attitude to work came into its own when he
produced Wamdue Project's first album, 'Resource Toolbox', for
Strictly Rhythm, almost entirely on his own.
A Wamdue Kids album followed a year later on the Peacefrog label,
while Brann continued to pump out tracks under his Project moniker
But it was his 1998 album for Strictly Rhythm, called 'Program
Yourself', that was to deliver his first cross over from dance
floor hit to chart success, in the shape of the album's opening
number - 'King Of My Castle'.
Meanwhile, in the same year, he began yet another house-based
project called the Ananda Project for the King Street imprint, this
time working with singer/ songwriter Gaelle Adisson.
Typically Brann followed this with a change of style, releasing an
album of new material under his P'Taah handle in 2000.
Yet another project, P'Taah stretched beyond the usual confines of
house to embrace jazz, drum 'n' bass, funk and soul. The change
accompanied a shift in imprint, as Brann moved to the jazz based
dance label Ubiquity records.
Now, in 2002, Chris Brann is at last releasing an album under his
own name, but for once there isn't a single track by the ever
prolific producer on it. We spoke to him on the eve of the release
of his broad ranging 'Inspirations' compilation album for the
KarmaGiraffe label.
enjoy this excellent Nite Groove's EP, a King Street Sounds
