To Rococo Rot is the project of Berlin-based brothers
Robert and Ronald Lippok, and Stefan Schneider from
Dusseldorf - otherwise known for his part in German
post-rock outfit Kreidler. Running as a complementary
parallel, TRR sees them working in a discrete, electronic
vein. Beautifully produced, the 3 tracks here (recorded in
Hamburg in January '98) ditch melody and drama, to layer
out a soothing, meditative space. Rather than working
through a linear dynamics, sound-loops and rhythms are
hung together laterally, accumulating outwards to create a
dense, timbral tapestry. Hypnotic repetition is augmented
by subtle percussive developments and shifts at
micro-level, generating a hologrammatic sense of
suspension.
