The Siegfried Sassoon make a jerky, Casiotoned math-rock sound
that owes as much to their Gameboys as it does to Wire.
'Muscle Beach' (Natural History Records) is a complex sonic
mix (if you plotted the time changes and what each instrument
does onto graph paper, you might have the wiring diagram of a
nuclear sub) but it's got a melodic heart. Laura-Mary Carter
from Blood Red Shoes adds vocals to 'The Al Gore Rhythm', a
frenetic, epileptic seizure of a song. I thought it would be
too quirky - too 'Skins' - to enjoy but a couple of listens
will leave you breathless but not bored.
