:: Dustbowls eponymous, debut EP is three tracks of tech-house and techno which has ::
:: picked up a dazzling array of support from the likes of Chloe, Kompakt's Markus ::
:: Guenter, Sei A, Alex Attias and Eddie Richards from the time-honoured white ::
:: label route, but now the ep seeÆs a full release on the ever-quality Lot49. ::
:: ::
:: As it turns out, Dustbowl is the new project from Lot49 artists Mark Pember ::
:: (Meat Katie) and Simon Shackleton (Elite Force). The pair have of course ::
:: collaborated on original productions and remixes before working with Roland ::
:: Clarke and remixing UNKLE to name just a couple of high points, but this is ::
:: release marks a new post in their collective work with a distinctive sound ::
:: forged in the fires of techno. ::
:: ::
:: The opening cut on this 3 track EP is entitled æFire Still BurningÆ and is a ::
:: stripped, simplistic number with a hypnotic acid groove to it. Subtle vocal ::
:: edits and pads add a touch of warm melody to the minimalist backdrop and the ::
:: arrangement draws the listener in with its effortless flow. A superbly crafted ::
:: piece of dancefloor aimed music that straddles the fence of house and minimal ::
:: techno. After first appearing on PemberÆs Ministry æSessionÆ compilation in the ::
:: summer the single release of this track is a real treat. ::
:: ::
:: Next up is the bass driven æStep UpÆ with its shuffling percussion track and ::
:: bubblin analogue synth lines. An intense track from the very start, this builds ::
:: and drops from beginning to end creating a rollercoaster ride for any ::
:: dancefloor. ItÆs easy to see why this cut has been finding such favour with US ::
:: and European techno jocks alike and has been picked up by James Zabiela for his ::
:: new Renaissance compilation. ::
:: ::
:: The final piece in the puzzle is aptly entitled æThe Dark PassengerÆ and is a ::
:: bleepy and glitchy ride into the hinterland of warehouse techno. Dark, edgy and ::
:: sublime. ::
:: ::
:: ::
