Lille is not her real name. She is called Louise Alenius
Lille (pronounced leeler!) means "little" in Danish. So
Lille is Danish, is 24, and lives in Paris. Bloom Records
is bringing out her first album. A mature determined record
that she composed, programmed, arranged and wrote all by
herself within scarcely a year. Eleven electro and pop
compositions, eleven concise formats but covering very
different narrative and musical realities. Eleven worlds
described by one voice with considerable variation and
melodic nuances. Lille fell into the music pot very young
and, luckily for us, nothing has stopped her from realising
her destiny in this field.
Inquisitive about all styles, jazz, hip-hop and pop, and
after experimenting with different groups, she decided, to
go it alone. Almost a maniac with the love of things (very)
well done right through to the end, she shut herself up in
AntonÆs studio, entirely assuming her artistic choices,
organising her "mess", as she likes to call it, with no
interference from outside. By mess, she means "a particular
sound", a loop, which will give substance to a piece of
music, to a track. Unless it's her voice, successively
loud, melodic and whispering which drives the composition
and the final version of the piece No-one has ever taken
power over her world, over her music. Only the listener is
allowed, encouraged, to do it. There is room to travel, to
surprise oneself, to imagine Lille doesnt like to impose a
particular emotion. She creates a fertile terrain and then
small fissures in the edifice, liberates herself without
difficulty from the tempo, and has confidence in the
imagination of those who are listening.
This first album, "Ice To Silver", is to be appreciated
with circumspection. The voice, the vocals, are to be
discovered with patience and a slightly perverse delight,
and the electronic scenery pop and mid tempo perfectly
support a desire to be both unexpected, that is to say
herself, and sensual and direct. To conclude, a slight form
of alteration, from which the falsely naive and falsely
accessible but really strong melodies emerge on top.
Nothing superfluous here, no pretending, but a certain art
of war (intimate but waged against another), a humidity, a
fictional inspiration in which Lille exposes herself with
no strings and no gadgets. It is the same for the scene,
which she prepares with un-simulated pleasure. The versions
of the songs are revised and corrected, some are
undoubtedly longer, others will include acoustic elementsà
It will be soon now. Just waiting for you to fall into the
Ice To Silver trap. Lille will do the rest. (label review)
