Another fine electronic pop peculiarity from the Moodgadget label, this latest
venture comes from the duo of Ben Bromley and Ross Simonini who summon a
surreal yet effortlessly appealing sound that quite bizarrely overlaps the sort
of electronic hybrids TV On The Radio tend to come up with. 'Rich Doors' is
suggestive of '80s Bowie in its intriguing choruses whilst the beat hammers out
a floorboard shaking pattern. The verses boast thoroughly odd vocals that
switch between vocoded baritone and echo-saturated falsetto. All very strange,
but actually rather brilliant at the same time. 'Genghis On' goes a bit Animal
Collective in its introduction, pinned together by watery, field recorded
beats, but once again the interplay between extremely high and extremely low
vocals puts an even weirder spin on an already outlandish production. Imagine
Chromeo with a future-psych makeover and you're headed in the right sort of
direction...
