Release Notes:
People In Planes, a five piece band from Cardiff, release
their next single æLast Man StandingÆ from their sophomore
album Beyond The Horizon next month.
Having recently toured with Biffy Clyro and new kids on the
block Frightened Rabbit in December, they are sure to have
picked up a following along the way.
This latest offering has an intro that echoes the sound of
church organs. Not exactly attention-grabbing, but People In
Planes soon set the pace for this melodic rock offering. This
slow and dreary intro picks up interest and pace with added
guitars and a foot-tapping beat which builds to a lighter
bridge, and will soon have this song stuck in your head. By
the time we reach the end of the song, they have created a
rather impacting sound that mildly echoes an interesting
combination of MobyÆs æNatural BluesÆ and the vocals of
ColdplayÆs Chris Martin.
Overall, the lyrics are a little repetitive and not
particularly ground-breaking, but their sound is good and they
certainly have something different to offer.
B-side æBakedÆ offers some desperately appalling lyrics that
leave you wishing they had used this track purely as an
instrumental. æBarracudaÆ is a mild improvement with a catchy
riff but neither is as effective as A-side æLast Man
StandingÆ. Both are album tracks which means that People In
Planes will have to be very careful and selective when
choosing future single releases.
This single is certain to pick them up new followers but they
may need to up the ante a little if they are to survive the
harsh climate of the music industry. As the lyrics holler
ôBaby itÆs a jungle out thereö, only time will tell if this
band will survive it, but I feel that we may be hearing a lot
more from People In Planes in the future
