'the graveyard shift' is the debut single from friendship and
the latest gem to be offered up on too pure singles club's
plate. in keeping with its predecessors it's one unique and
exciting dish, just the right side of leftfield with the usual
dollop of infectiousness and melody. ok, enough of the food
analogies. they don't sit with the operating table. 'the
graveyard shift' is a thrashing, noodling, looping, stampeding
beast with a teasing jangling guitar rift running through its
dancing, pulsating veins. the flipside is 'punish you'9
(various production mix), a rhythmically reggae tinted
electronic journey though beats, synths and robotic sleekness.
friendship are dan hill and william de wit. the former once a
guitarist in redjetson, before escaping post-rock for a world
a little more open and 'jazzy'. william de wit played bass,
sporadically, until one late-night, back-of-the-bus jam
session saw the pair decide to join forces and work toward
something wholly their own. studio space was found and packed
with carefully chosen equipment. instruments were mastered -
dan the drums, william the not-as-then mastered guitar and
collectively the gibson echoplex to ensure no loops or sounds
were computer-generated. the effort as you can see from this
single was very much worth it.
