█ Jay.j.Fresh (James Allen Hampshire) was born in █
█ Canada in 1984. At an early age, his parents █
█ uprooted the family and moved to the island █
█ nation of Vanuatu in the South Pacific. Here he █
█ was raised in humble circumstances in a one- █
█ bedroom shack with his five siblings. His █
█ younger days were spent climbing trees, swimming █
█ in the ocean, and playing with the local █
           █ children. █
           █ █
█ Surrounded by a vast and rich culture of music █
█ and arts, a great love of rhythm and sound was █
█ instilled in him. He was strongly influenced by █
█ the traditional string band music of the area, as █
█ well as his parents' limited collection of █
█ popular music, listening to such artists as Phil █
█ Collins, Bob Marley, Boys II Men, All 4 One, █
█ Lionel Ritchie, Kriss Kross, Fresh Prince & Jazzy █
█ Jeff, and Michael Jackson. █
           █ █
█ Coming back to Canada was a huge culture shock, █
█ yet it allowed for many more opportunities to █
█ expand his musical horizons. He became very █
█ drawn to Hiphop and its culture, spending his █
█ high school lunch hours perfecting his B-boy █
           █ skills. █

█ It wasn't until a return visit to his childhood █
█ paradise of Vanuatu that he became truly inspired █
█ and motivated to pursue his love of music as a █
