Vs. Children, Casiotone for the Painfully AloneÆs fifth proper full-length,
sees Owen Ashworth putting away the keyboards to focus more on piano, organ,
and acoustic percussion. A consistent theme of the record is
criminalityùapparently, a former co-worker of AshworthÆs had been arrested
for holding up 26 banks prior to the recording of the album (see ôApprehended
at Ace Hardware in Libertyville, ILö). And, as the title suggests, many of
the songs are also about children, pregnancy, and parent/child relationships.
DonÆt be too alarmed by the heavy subject matter, though. Even though this is
the product of a more mature Casiotone, itÆs still presented with the same
intimacy of his earlier recordings.
