Since the release of "The Rouen EP" on Supernature at the beginning
of 2008, the Bearweasel duo, Dean Muhsin and Louisa Page have been
hard at work. Singles on Tsuba, Murmur, Bloop and 8Bit have pushed
the Bearweasel profile to the fore bringing them strong support
whilst garnering remixes from the likes of Get Physical, VIVa Music &
the re-launched Classic.
Now the act returns to the imprint that played home to their musical
incept and deliver the wildly titled "Duck Hunt EP" featuring 3
original cuts and 2 outstanding remixes.
First of the flush is "Superhero", a brilliant piece of dub house
dripping with warm tape delays backed by a rolling percussion track
and featuring a clever time signature shift in the drop that gives
emphasises to the dub feel of the cut.
Hot on the heels of the original is a remix of "Superhero" from
Remote Area artist Boris Werner. Werner takes the percussive elements
and wraps them into a bass heavy piece of house overlayed with tribal
vocal samples and subtle melodic loops. A classic piece of deep and
dubbed out house music.
Moving on we reach original cut "Where's Ratty", a floorfilling, loop
driven track defined by it's simplicity - with just a few stabs and
loops doing all the work excellently. Hotly tipped Romanian talent
Ali Nasser delivers an altogether deeper interpretation which
provides a great contrast to the original.
Finally, Bearweasel unleash "Busy", a warm, driving track which has
been a feature of Audiofly, Clive Henry and Jimpsters sets for the
past year and is instantly recognisable with it's undulating bass,
disco-esque drums and fm stabs.
Bearweasel are rapidly becoming one of the hottest production outfits
around and with a selection of tracks like this itÆs easy to see why.
