Release Notes:

While it'll be no surprise to anyone friendly to Fazer that I'm a
die-hard Swervedriver fan, it might come as a surprise to learn that
I've not really loved anything that Franklin has done since
Swervedriver stopped recording. I've certainly bought a lot of
post-Swervedriver material, and have found them all yielding moments of
greatness (naturally), but nothing has completely impressed me like
Spent Bullets, a new solo CD from Franklin coming out in March.
Franklin somehow squeezed creating Spent Bullets in last year amidst a
reunion tour with Swervedriver and recording a full album with Sam
Fogarino from Interpol under the name Magnetic Morning (which they also
toured). With so much going on in 2008 for him, I'm amazed that Spent
Bullets sounds as full as it does. There aren't really any moments of
'Son Of Mustang Ford' on the album, but there are some mellower, yet
equally mesmerizing layers of guitar swirling present throughout the
ten tracks on Spent Bullets.

In lieu of the sonics from days gone by, Franklin delivers some really
appealing lyrics, lovely singing and catchy melodies that recall some
of the mellower moments of Ejector Seat Reservation. 'Teardrops Keep
Fallin' Out My Head', the second song into Spent Bullets is an amazing
example of Adam Franklin circa 2009 - doing everything at the top of
his game. As the last notes of 'Teardrops' fade into 'Bolts of Melody',
and your head starts to lull in a slow Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
approval at another mind-blower of a song' you can take solace in the
fact that you're not even a quarter of the way into an album that will
surely go down on record as some of Franklin's finest material. What I
really dig about Spent Bullets is the attention to detail in the
production of the album. There's plenty of little background guitar
effects and signature foot-peddle action worked in throughout all of
the songs.
