Release Notes:

Mali Electric pays a unique tribute to the lost
golden age of 1970s Mali. Following the example of
their Guinean colleagues, the Malian orchestras of
the 1970s electrified their guitars, plugged in
their organs, recruited exceptional singers and
sharpened their brass, modernizing whole sections
of the folk catalogs mandingue, peul and bambara.
At the time of the famous Bienniales Artistiques,
renowned orchestras such as the Bamako Rail Band,
the Super Djata Band, or National Badema measured
themselves against lesser known, yet equally
fearsome regional orchestras such as le MystΦre
Jazz de Tombouctou, le KΘnΘstar de Sikasso, le Sidi
Yassa de Kayes or le Kanaga de Mopti, reflecting an
ethnic and cultural diversity unique to West
Africa.
