Release Notes:
I can only assume London's Fanfarlo made a positive decision to release
their debut album themselves and not risk it being mishandled by
others. The fear is though that with exposure limited to word of mouth
rather than an organised promotion machine this could go down as one of
the great lost classics. With eleven tracks of beautiful wistful
orchestral pop, superbly produced by Peter Katis (The National and
Interpol), Reservoir really does deserve to be heard. All the promise
of the four early singles has been delivered on here, with the sextet's
strings, keys, mandolin and trumpet accompanying the gorgeous soothing
vocals of frontman Simon. Soul music for indiepop fans, it feels like a
European Arcade Fire or a more hook laden Beirut, it's occasionally
mournful and pensive, sometimes strident and uplifting, but never ever
dull.
