Release Notes:

Reviewing the latest album by Our Brother The Native has possibly been
one of the hardest jobs I've had in quite some time. For a start the
band are completely new to me (even though 'Sacred Psalms' is the third
album by this Californian/Michigan based band) and secondly the depth
of musical referencing is quite staggering; which see easily rivals the
likes of Dan Deacon and Animal Collective for electisism.

Even with those two factors weighing down on my shoulders like the
heavens on Atlas I can safely say that this is one of the most
refreshing listens I've had this year. If a Zelda like Triforce was
present in a night out then Dan Deacon would be the party, Animal
Collective would be the drug and Our Brother The Native would be the
journey home.

The band, which has a Postal Service style functionality (Joshua
Bertram and Chaz Knapp exchange song ideas from their respective homes
in California and Michigan) also have a very spiritual quality to them.
Listening to Sacred Psalms is like discovering a hidden tape in an
abandoned temple. It's both uplifting ('All Grown') and dark (, with
the empahsis on personal reflection in both cases.

A lot of people showcase their eclectic sensabilities without a shred
of musical integrity or end product but Our Brother The Native are
different. They mix together freak-folk, noise and their eastern
influences to produce music that will make the hairs on the back of
your neck stand up.
