After a drum'n'bass album ("The age of terminal irony") and a █
atmospheric / experimental CD ("Kaleinoiscope"), Ammo are at it █
again this time with a 7" of fucked up and tonge in cheek █
breakcore. Packaged in a already ironic sleeve (bearing a $100 █
bill over photos of a muscular male torso and leather clad female █
chest), this 7" by John Sellekaers (Xingu Hill, Ambre, █
Torsion...) and C-Drik (Ambre, Axiome, Crno Klank...) features █
four tracks whose main goal is to turn mainstream, well known █
songs into monstrous, violent, fast and very broken electronics █
tracks. █
█
On the "gentlemen" side, we get at first a syncopated version of █
"It's my life" (this time called "get a life"), mixing a very █
fast drum pattern, a martial rhythm as intro, and a lot of █
effects on the vocals. No rhythm or sequence is hold for more █
than 20 seconds, and the all thing is totally mixed, meshed and █
destructured. But one should not forget that we do not deal with █
amateurs here. These two guys know exactly what they do and, even █
when they mix big fat beats, electronic mayhem and reggae vocals █
on "Exterminating angel", we the listener obtain something █
extremely tasty, that would fit perfectly in any good breakcore █
DJ mix (think "Three the hard way"). █
█
But something tells me that the track from this 7" that will be █
the most played will be "What was that oops for?", on the "ladies █
side". Here is a smothering, very fast paced, exploded cover of █
"oops, I did it again" from Britney Spears. Imagine a noisier █
version of Venetian Snares in which the jazzy sampler would have █
been replaced by the teen singer voice, and I know a lot are █
already grabbing their moneys to get this (warning, this 7" is █
limited to 500 copies). Finally, the fourth track is calmer, also █
with sampled female voice (we're on the "ladies" side, after all) █
and a sad saxophone, that ends with irony a very, very nice 7" █
that brings both fresh air and humor to the industrial scene. █
Give me more. █
