▓████▓▌ Ellington's centennial by focusing on his music. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ This CD has the soundtrack of a PBS television ▓▌
▓████▓▌ special that helped launch the year of celebrating. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Eleven of Ellington's compositions, ranging from ▓▌
▓████▓▌ well-known ("C Jam Blues" and "Mood Indigo") to ▓▌
▓████▓▌ obscure ("Chinoiserie" and "Portrait of Louis ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Armstrong") are expertly performed by the all-star ▓▌
▓████▓▌ big band. Tenor-saxophonist Illinois Jacquet is a ▓▌
▓████▓▌ guest on "Cottontail," Milt Grayson vocalizes on ▓▌
▓████▓▌ "Multi Colored Blue" and Dianne Reeves sings "Bli ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Blip" but otherwise, the basic orchestra is ▓▌
▓████▓▌ showcased. Among the many soloists are pianist ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Cyrus Chestnut (who does a good job of emulating ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Duke's piano style), tenor-saxophonist Walter ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Blanding, altoist Wes Anderson, clarinetist Victor ▓▌

▓████▓▌ sounding like Duke Ellington's ensemble; Joe ▓▌
