Toronto-based Play Records has definitely outdone itself with this
superb collection of dancefloor-inspired 4/4 breakbeat gems, aptly
titled house broken.
This CD appeals to me on so many levels I don't know where to
begin. The broken-beat philosophy is gloriously espoused by various
artists such as The Mad Professor (who contributes a dub mix), The
Lazy Boys and the incredible Titonton DuvantΘ, who comes at us with
the techno-laced "Affection." There's the funky keys throw-down
"Company," which features the skilled Stephane (Teknostep) Vera,
Tuube's Noah Frank and Marc De Breyne, never mind the shining sexy
vocal opener "Crash" by Tuube that features Syreeta Neal on vocals.
And I really love the deep-house soother "You Can Feel" by NYC
producer Michael Alan; it totally puts me into a beautiful
headspace.
The tracks were selected by Peace Harvest, a.k.a. Peter Jarvis, who
says his vision was to "create something that no one else was doing
by releasing a compilation that was all label-owned material and
which was diverse, with futuristic ideals of fusion."
