| andy vaz continues his global hunt for quality, this time |
| settling on western australian dave miller... |
| "cigarettes and coffee" subscribes to a farbenish vision of the |
| good groove, dextrous and rather colossal bass, teeny hiccups, |
| and a swaggering, melodic, roving drift which is pure and |
| totally enveloping. massive track. |
| "backwards and forwards" seesaws in finest shuffle time, and |
| miller's particular abilities for melody are even more readily |
| apparent here. as the pitch changes, seismic low end challenges |
| the equilibrium, at the same time ensuring sound system |
| dominance. there's some quite amazing rhythm manipulations, |
| less muted perhaps than .snd, but with some of the same |
| sprinkling of magic when we consider this as a debut release. |
| "dubbing out on lantana" begins with the digital stabs, and |
| cataclysmic bass again, but the ticking time takes us away from |
| a traditional skank and out into brave new auras of sound. |
| "unfortunate interruption from mr. lewis" confirms that dave |
| has access to the same motherlode as akufen - a hugely creative |
| and rather splendid four tracker, big recommendation. |
