█ From a musical perspective, this project really █
█ followed its title. Early on, Alan Silvestri was █
█ supposed to compose the score. He had worked with █
█ director Charles Shyer on Father Of The Bride and █
█ seemed to be the perfect choice, but instead █
█ veteran composer Elmer Bernstein was hired. When █
█ his score was rejected (it's available on a █
█ hard-to-find bootleg CD), David Newman was called █
█ in to write the replacement score. And that is the █
█ music that finally made it to the soundtrack █
█ shelves. Sadly, very little of David Newman's █
█ scores are available on CD, so I Love Trouble was █
█ indeed a welcome addition to his discography. █
█ Unfortunately, this is not one of his more █
█ impressive scores and it falls short in comparison █
█ with Coneheads, The Flintstones, War Of The Roses █
█ and Bill And Ted's Bogus Journey, to name a few on █
█ my wish list. I Love Trouble is a pleasant █
█ listening experience, but as the film is a light █
█ comedy and Newman's score follows that concept, █
█ it's not very inspiring. A special thanks from the █
█ composer is directed to Alan Silvestri and his █
█ orchestrator William Ross, which is interesting - █
█ Newman's music has that elegant Silvestri touch, █
█ actually. But its best parts is the jazz, which is █
█ a David Newman specialty. The soft and sensual █
█ "Honeymoon Night" is the highlight of the score. █
█ To add some speed to the film's depiction of █
█ journalism, Newman has composed a scherzo-like █
█ theme, featured prominently in "Scoop de Jour". █
█ Many of the cues on the album are short, and the █
█ music is in fact very impersonal - there is very █
█ little David Newman and very much Hollywood cliche █
█ in this score. It's extremely well-crafted and █
█ professional, but I need more than that to fall in █
█ love with a score. [Reviewed by: Mikael Carlsson] █
