ALBUM DESCRIPTION
Teresa Acquaviva is a native of the suburbs of Washington, DC. She
became interested in piano from the age of 5, and by age 6, her parents
began formal piano instruction. She was writing her ôown little songsö
at age 7, and by 10 had decided she'd learned everything there was to
know about piano. So, she switched to the cello! That lasted about a
month, as carrying the cello to and from school was not exactly what
she had "envisioned". She then switched to the violin, as it was a much
lighter instrument and easier to carry to school. Teresa continued with
the violin and became part of several youth orchestras during that
time. It was during these years that she became fond of orchestration.
By age 13, her love for piano returned and she began lessons once
again. Though she had a love for the Classics, she constantly found
herself bored and would often drift away from the printed page to
experiment with her own melodic creations. Many years later, Teresa
shared some of her songs with her good friend, and now renowned author,
Forbes Blair. ForbeÆs encouraged her to share her songs with others,
and she soon began authoring music for local cable TV shows as well as
performing for countless weddings, retreats, events and services. In
recent years, Teresa has become a student of Jewish studies and has
delighted in 'Psalmist' compositions. Teresa and her husband, Michael,
have three children and still reside in the Washington, DC area. They
aspire to move to New Zealand in the near future -- a magical place
which possesses an endless source of musical inspiration!
LABEL THINK ABOUT THIS ALBUM
This is definitely "ocean music". We can hear Teresa Acquaviva's
expression of her feeling for the depths and the breadth of the ocean,
for the calm moments and for the stormy moments. Calling this music
"new-age" is confining it. Yes, it is new-age, and the pianist takes
advantage of the freedom from classical form that the genre affords.
But it goes beyond that, and many who generally have no interest in
what they call "new age" may well enjoy this. This lady definitely has
the classical knowledge and knows technically what she is doing, and
the effect is breathtaking. If you enjoy evocations of the sea; if you
enjoy classically flavored new age; if you enjoy the piano played in a
manner that ranges from the intimate to large scale; you will treasure
this CD.
